Friends of Akitas Trust (UK)

http://www.friendsofakitas.co.uk/

Every week numbers of Akitas end up in council pounds with only seven days to find a home before destruction. We aim to get as many of these Akitas as possible into ’safe’ kennels and ultimately into new forever homes. That’s not to say that we will only help ‘Poundies’. Our objective is to help, rescue where necessary, rehabilitate and rehome any Akita which needs it, through assessing both dog and potential owners, to ensure a well-matched and long lasting, happy relationship.
The Akita is a beautiful and striking breed, and people often seem surprised to hear that such a magnificent dog ends up in rescue, but it’s true. In the UK so far this year 105,068 stray dogs have been collected, with 7,892 of these dogs being put to sleep (Stray Dogs Survey, 2007, The Dogs Trust) The percentage of these that are Akitas has not been established, but it is thought to be a significant figure.

The Labrador Lifeline Trust

http://www.labrador-lifeline.co.uk

The Labrador Lifeline Trust is a Registered Charity with an operating area of Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Lincolnshire and part Nottinghamshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Our helpers are all unpaid volunteers and all money raised is used in the rehoming and welfare of our dogs.

All dogs coming into the Trust are carefully vetted by our experienced helpers, as are the homes that wish to adopt them.

We keep in contact with the dog for the remainder of its life and previous owners may contact us for information at any time. We observe strict confidentiality at all times and do not put donors in touch with recipients.

We do not supply dogs for working purposes, as the majority are already family pets and would not adapt to living outside.

The main reasons for Labradors needing to be rehomed are domestic crisis, divorce, finance, and bereavement. Fortunately very few are as a result of cruelty.

The Trust deals with over 300 cases per year and will take dogs irrespective of age or infirmity.

Urgent Appeal

We cannot take on any more urgent dogs unless we move some of the record number of dogs that we currently have in commercial boarding kennels. We need to raise funds urgently to pay kenneling costs and ensure that we can save more dogs
